Committee Meeting Notes, April 17, 2019

Thanks to Marsha, Sara, Margo, Debbie, Terry, Linda, Patrick, Marty and Thomas for your attendance at tonight's meeting.

With our priorities in order (food and beverages), we discussed:

DATABASE & SAVE THE DATE EMAIL

On 3/11, with the help of Kirkwood School District, “Save The Date” emails were sent to a lucky 300+ classmates to help determine the accuracy of our email contacts.

Further work will be done to update this list so another "Save The Date" email can be sent under our class logo, which will guarantee the best results. What Class of '70 Pioneer wants to be sent to the KHS cafeteria or loose their Red Badge (of courage) for missing our Reunion?

The following attendees “volunteered” their services to each further research about 27 MIA classmates:

  • Linda Marr: Antoine thru Climer

  • Marsha Boedeker: Collins thru Fields

  • Debbie Koewing: Flippen thru Huegerich

  • Patrick Winning: Jackson thru McGuire

  • Margo Keen: McPherson thru Richarson

  • Thomas Stevenson: Ridings thru Stickler

  • Sara Crook: Strecker thru Zydek

If you know the whereabouts of our classmates, please let us know. Reward: undying gratitude of our volunteers and possibly a root beer at Carl's. Update needed by 7/17.

Marty and Terry will be working with Amy at Kirkwood School District to learn how to update our database. We have come a long way from learning how to type on manual typewriters at KHS. Well, some of us have.

TEE SHIRTS

Margo shared with us samples of tee shirts that she could offer with embroidered Pioneer Pete (w/o a beard, which was a major source of debate), KHS logo and/or Class of '70 logo on them. Further research will be conducted on which to offer through voting at all local Kirkwood pubs (maybe). More information to follow on Facebook.

VENUES

Discussion was held regarding the best places to hold our weekend events. With our advancing maturity, emphasis was on easy to hear, easy to get in/out, no lifting, casual, cheap(er) and lots of beverages. Not necessarily in that order.

After a few beverages we came to agreement on the following:

  • Friday, 9/11: Jefferson Grill (aka PJ's).
Key Contact: Terry Markway and Patti Smith (obviously, being Reunion Committee Secretary does not get you out of other “volunteer" opportunities)

  • Saturday, 9/12 Morning: KHS Tour in the morning:
Key Contact: Need volunteers (note: probably best/easiest event to host, which is always a plus to the Class of '70).

  • Saturday, 9/12 Evening: Westborough Country Club in the evening: Casual (i.e. jeans w/o holes allowed) event with food and drinks and other event activities.
    Key Contacts: TBD

  • Sunday, 9/13: Kirkwood Park (Linda Marr to research getting a reservation).
Key Contacts: Linda Marr and Marsha Boedeker

Volunteers needed for ALL our activities and events! Those participating will be eligible to win a trip down KHS Memory Lane including where to park at KHS to best escape detection at lunchtime, where our Senior Lounge was located (and where to smoke without getting caught) and hamburgers at the old Burger Chef, Burger Den, Parkmoor and/or Steak & Shake. Bonus: Retake of your Senior Picture for all future Reunion name tags and Facebook postings.

Next Meeting: TBD (probably in August)

Monthly meetings beginning in 9/19.

Join us!

Thanks,

Patti Smith

Hope to see you there. Attendance could reduce the chance of being volunteered.
