Committee Meeting Notes, February 19, 2020

In attendance were: Sue Bechtold, Trudy Brenner, Marsha Boedeker, Sara Crook, Deborah Ellis, Deborah Erb, Stan Freerks, Jack James, Eric Johnson, Margo Keen, Debbie Koewing, Randy Mulcahy, Kathie Murphy, Laurie Smith, Patti Smith, Marty Stegeman and Patrick Winning.

VOLUNTEERS

Now is the time for all good Pioneers to come to the aid of their Reunion. Time yourself on typing that phrase, in memory of our typing class on manual (& electric, if very fast) typewriters. You can then show your grandkids how to dial a number on a line, using "Taylor" or "Yorktown". Attend our next meeting to sign up to help with our Reunion festivities. We need everyone’s help!

KHS TOUR (Sue McNamara)

We encourage all our Reunion Committee members to attend the Saturday tour at KHS. Plan on posing as prideful Pioneers at the "K" on campus after the tour. Hard to imagine how we ran from the portable building classrooms to the gym in less than 5 minutes for gym class back in the day. And fitting in those red shorts with snaps...

SUNDAY PICNIC (Marsha Boedeker & Jack James)

Discussion was held on the food, if any, that could be offered at our Reunion picnic at Kirkwood Park.

CLASSMATE SEARCHES

Send any future updates, including news of any gone, but not forgotten classmates, to Debbie Koewing (deblk238@gmail.com). Attached find our Class of ’70 Commencement Exercises that might help you locate some of our classmates. Helpful site: www.truepeoplesearch.com

LOGO PRESENTATION

Susan Bechtold shared two “The Beat Goes On” logo options with us that can be added to our name tags, canvas banner and possible future Senior Life Alert buttons.

SAVE THE DATE

We hope that our Save The Date postcard & email notification can be released by the Kirkwood School District Administration by 4/1. We also hope that the Webster-Kirkwood Times name could be officially changed to the more apt Kirkwood-Webster Times.

INVITATIONS

We are considering our options on sending the invitations by email, directing classmates to our website and/or through a mailing. An additional option includes flying a banner over the beaches of Florida during Spring Break.

WESTBOROUGH ON SATURDAY NIGHT

We agreed to have the party begin at 5:30 pm vs 6 pm. We anticipate light food being served before our class picture at 6:30 pm. Thus, less chance of stains on the front of our attire, as KHS Reunion bibs will not be available until our 60th Reunion. A reminder that CASH is king/queen for the bar. A photographer will be taking candid pictures during this event, which can then be ordered from him. The class picture will be available to be picked up at the event. In an effort to maximize interaction between all our classmates, there will be tall round tables with a buffet. We will have available to us both the Terrace Room and Westborough Room (where the DJ will be playing).

DJ (Debbie Ellis)

A DJ has been booked for 4 hours of play on Saturday night at Westborough Country Club. Discussion was held regarding the suitable tunes for our trip down Memory Lane while The Beat Goes On.

TEE SHIRTS (Margo Keen)

High quality embroidered KHS Reunion shirts & other options can be ordered direct from Margo at monogrammystl.com.

NEXT MEETING

Note that our next meeting date has changed to Wednesday 4/15/20. The Walnut Grill banquet room (with food & beverage options) will be available at 5:30 pm, with the meeting beginning (more or less) at 6:45 pm.

For future reference, should you attend a future KHS sports event, here are the words to our Alma Mater song:

Hail! Kirkwood High School,

Unto Thee we sing.

Ever victorious homage we bring.

Through all the ages

All our sons (& might I add, daughters) so bold,

Fight for old Kirkwood High School.

Fight for the Red and White.

See you on WEDNESDAY, 4/15!

Respectfully submitted (without the benefit of a beverage(s)),

Patti Smith
