Committee Meeting Notes, January 8, 2020

Bringing in our 50th Reunion year with a bang, we had a record 23 proud Pioneers at our 1/8 Reunion meeting: Sue (aka Susan) Bechtold, Trudy Brenner, John Bilhorn, Marsha Boedeker, Josephine Chambers, Sara Crook, Deborah Erb, Stan Freerks, Janet Huegerich, (Chef) Jack James, Eric Johnson, Joan Johnson, Margo Keen, Deborah Koewing, Terry Markway, Susan McNamara, Randy Mulchy, Rick Nelson, Laurie Smith, Patti Smith, Marty Stegeman, Thomas Stevenson and Patrick Winning.

CLASSMATE SEARCHES

Records show we had 846 in the Class of '70 and 752 classmates in our Yearbook. Any guesses on how many actually graduated (including carry-overs from the Class of '69) with us in that hot KHS gym? We welcome back to our 50th Class Reunion ALL that were part of our Kirkwood School District experience, whether they graduated with us, were in (or not in) the Yearbook, or whether their grade school still exits. Please let everyone know they are all welcome and get their contact information to us so we can keep them updated on our Reunion events. Thanks to all of you who have searched, and continue to search for our MIAs (COD if any money left).

THEME

With Sue Bechtold’s expertise, the group selected “The Beat Goes On” as our Reunion theme, with it aptly representing our years together. Sonny & Cher outfits optional.

VOLUNTEERS

Help is needed at each of our events, so if you haven't volunteered yet, avoid being drafted (Gentlemen, do you remember your draft number?) and let us know which of these fun events you can assist:

  • Friday Night (Terry Markway and Patti Smith), 9/11 at Jefferson Grill: Assemble name tags into lanyards, registration, signage.

  • Saturday Morning KHS Tour (Sue McNamara), 9/12: Direct classmates to the tour (i.e. Vana/Van White's without a long dress), the Pioneer gift shop and group picture.

  • Saturday Night (Sara Crook) at Westborough Country Club: Set up menu (no leftover Sr. Lounge vending machine food, please), decorations, room set-up, registration table, gathering classmates for group picture. Terry needs help with a Power Point trip down Memory Lane including our 80+ classmates who are no longer with us.

  • Sunday Picnic (Marsha Boedeker and Linda Marr) at Kirkwood Park on 9/13: Food (if any) and set-up at Kirkwood Park before 11 am.

Your reward: One way trip to  Burger Chef, Burger King, Burger Den, Parkmoor, Steak and Shake, Schneithorst, Shakey's, Velvet Freeze, Ronnie's Drive-In, the Drive-In on Manchester (now home of West County Center) or the Mississippi River Festival at SIU. Priceless (and almost all no longer with us).

TEE SHIRTS (Margo Keen)

Margo showed us a high quality (like our class) embroidered KHS shirt and hat (can see on her website) that will be available to order direct from her online at: MonoGrammystl.com

KIRKWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT

Amy, at Kirkwood School District, will assist us with daily updates on registrations and amount paid (they will be receiving registration payments). Check the Kirkwood webpage for Reunion updates.
